Effective February 6, 2023 the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) adopted Order FCC 22-84, which aims to protect against national security threats to the communications supply chain through the Equipment Authorization Program. This order amends the Equipment Authorization Program by requiring a US Agent for the FCC certification process.
The US Agent is responsible for representing the equipment manufacturer or importer in all interactions with the FCC regarding the certification and authorization of their equipment. The US Agent must be based in the United States and be authorized to receive legal notifications and other official documents on behalf of the manufacturer or importer.
The adoption of FCC 22-84 is a significant step towards ensuring the security and reliability of the communications supply chain in the United States. By requiring an US Agent for the FCC certification process, the FCC is helping to promote a fair and transparent business environment, and is taking steps to protect against potential national security threats.
